Williams Back as Zimbabwe Announce Squad for Sri Lanka Series

ZIMBABWE will welcome back seasoned all-rounder Sean Williams when they face Sri Lanka in a three-match Twenty20 International series starting on Wednesday at Harare Sports Club.

The other two matches are set for Saturday and Sunday, with all games beginning at 1:30 pm local time.

Williams, who last played a T20I against Bangladesh on 12 May 2024, returns to strengthen the Chevrons’ middle order and provide balance with both bat and ball. The 37-year-old is one of Zimbabwe’s most experienced campaigners, having featured in more than 80 matches in the shortest format since making his debut in 2006. His recall comes at a crucial time as Zimbabwe continue preparations for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Africa Qualifier later this month.

Also returning to the fold is former captain and wicketkeeper-batter Brendan Taylor, who has been recalled after a long absence from T20 cricket. Brad Evans and Tadiwanashe Marumani have also been included, while Newman Nyamhuri, Wessly Madhevere, Vincent Masekesa, and Tafadzwa Tsiga miss out after playing in last month’s triangular series against New Zealand and South Africa.

Zimbabwe’s selectors will be looking to Williams’ experience and calm head as the side builds momentum ahead of the qualifiers. His ability to guide younger teammates while still producing match-winning performances with bat and ball is seen as a major boost for the squad.

Sikandar Raza will continue to lead the team, which blends youth and experience as Zimbabwe push for consistency in the T20 format.

Zimbabwe squad for T20I series vs Sri Lanka:
Sikandar Raza (Captain), Brian Bennett, Ryan Burl, Brad Evans, Trevor Gwandu, Clive Madande, Tinotenda Maposa, Tadiwanashe Marumani, Wellington Masakadza, Tony Munyonga, Tashinga Musekiwa, Blessing Muzarabani, Dion Myers, Richard Ngarava, Brendan Taylor, Sean Williams.
