World Cup Dreams on the Line as Africa T20I Qualifier Nears

EIGHT African nations will gather in Harare for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Africa Qualifier 2025, where only two teams will earn a ticket to the ICC T20I World Cup in India and Sri Lanka in 2026.

The men’s qualifiers will run from 26 September to 4 October at Harare Sports Club and Takashinga Cricket Club.

Namibia, Kenya, Malawi and Nigeria form Group A, while hosts Zimbabwe line up in Group B with Uganda, Tanzania and Botswana. With only the top two sides from the tournament qualifying, every match will carry huge importance.

The action begins on 26 September with Namibia taking on Kenya at Harare Sports Club and Nigeria facing Malawi at Takashinga. Later in the day, Zimbabwe meet Uganda in their opener, while Tanzania clash with Botswana.

For teams like Namibia, who have built a reputation as one of Africa’s strongest T20 sides, the event is a chance to confirm their consistency. Uganda, who have been on the rise in recent years, will also see this as a golden chance to secure a historic place at the World Cup.

A total of 28 games, including warm-up matches, will be played across Harare Sports Club and Takashinga Cricket Club. The two semi-finals on 2 October will decide which sides qualify, before the final takes place on 4 October at Harare Sports Club.

Zimbabwe Cricket Chairman Tavengwa Mukuhlani said the qualifier will bring excitement to the city.

“We are thrilled to welcome seven other nations to Harare for what promises to be a great week of cricket,” he said
