USHER Garwe produced the match defining spell as Takashinga 2 swept aside Strikers Cricket Club by 118 runs in a one sided National Premier League encounter at Mutare Sports Club on Saturday.
Defending a challenging total of 217 for seven, Garwe tore through the Strikers batting order with pace, accuracy and relentless discipline.
His six over spell yielded remarkable figures of five for 30 as Strikers collapsed from 13 without loss to 41 for five inside the opening Powerplay.
Ryan Kamwemba, Tadiwa Gosho, Tashinga Makoni, Panashe Gwatiringa and Simbarashe Mudzengerere all fell to Garwe, leaving the chase in ruins before it had gathered momentum.
Tanatswa Chisvo and Takudzwa Chataira ensured there would be no recovery, sharing four wickets between them, while Marshall Takodza completed the innings by dismissing Tatenda Chimugoro for 26, the visitors’ highest scorer.
Earlier, Takashinga 2 had laid the platform through a disciplined batting effort led by Charles Kunje.
The right hander crafted an assured 59 from 52 balls after the early departure of captain Baxon Gopito.
Tanunurwa Makoni contributed 43 from 39 deliveries before Kunje and Leeroy Chiwaula combined in an important partnership that shifted the initiative firmly towards Takashinga.
Chiwaula’s aggressive 43 from 40 balls, which included five boundaries, ensured the scoring rate never dipped as the pair added valuable runs through the middle overs.
Late cameos from Shelton Mazvitorera, Tinashe Nenhunzi and Marshall Takodza carried Takashinga beyond the 200 run mark.
Brendon Senzere emerged as Strikers’ most successful bowler with three for 38 but found little support as Takashinga consistently found boundaries in the closing overs.
