All eyes on the Winky D “Tête-à-Tête” concert

THE heavyweight international award winning Dancehall giant, Winky D born Wallace Chirumiko has set the stage for what is drawn up to be one of his historic performances yet, announcing his highly anticipated “Tête-à-Tête,” August 30 concert at Alex Sports Club.
“August 30, The Tête-à-Tête concert at Alex Sports Club. Here we go,” the Zimbabwe’s people’s choice artiste declared in a social media post, adopting the now-famous update style of veteran Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano.
“Tête-à-Tête,” is a French word which stands for “head-to-head,” and it is traditionally used to describe a private or intimate conversation but in Winky D’s hands, it has become a rallying call for a direct and emotional exchange with his fans.
Adding to the excitement, fans and other notable artistes are eagerly awaiting announcements on a potential new album launch and the list of supporting acts, with updates and artistes feelings being shared on social media;
“If you check the poster there is no picture of other artistes even of Bigman himself but surprisingly the fans will come in their numbers. Some artistes are just blessed by God,” said Culture Love a Zimdancehall artiste.
“One man whom l respect a lot in Zimbabwe. We all wait for the special delivery from this giften son of soil,” said Themba Gorimbo a renowed boxer.
“Just know that will be there. 30 August will be supporting our Father The Ninja President,” said Kumba kwedu hitmaker Bazooka.
“This just shows that Winky D is the number one artiste in Zimbabwe,” said Hip hop chanter Holy Ten.
“Definitely we have no choices if you miss us there then definately will be at the backstage at “Tête-à-Tête” concert,” said D flex the Tsaona hitmaker.
The choice of Alex Sports Club has sparked intrigue, with loyal followers dubbing it the artist’s new “Jabhuna” after his fallout last year with Gateway Streams Media over the use of the Harare International Conference Centre (HICC).
That dispute marked a significant break from the venue long associated with his signature crossover shows.
When we bring names like Andy Brown, Oliver Mtukudzi, John Chibadura, Thomas Mapfumo, Marshall Munhumumwe then know Winky D The Bigman has always proved himself to be face of Zimbabwe’s music.
Indeed his social contemporary songs has made him stay relevant making hit songs and arguably the best current crowd puller that brings enjoyable live performances.
His stage communication, interaction and, of course, his body language if you have been to his show then you know that Winky D means business.
As the fans await for “Tête-à-Tête” concert Winky D on social media highlighted that on the weekend he will be in Gweru perfoming highlights of what will happen on the anticipated concert in Harare.
“Here we go again 16 August. Get ready for the Gafa and Vigi as they will be performing live in Gweru. Its just an exercise of what will be done at the “Tête-à-Tête” concert,” said Winky D
Winky D boasts with a notable collaborations which include with Holy 10, ExQ, Bling 4, Tocky Vybz, Gemma Griffiths, Freeman, Enzo Ishall, Guspy Warrior, Nutty O, Beenieman, Abra Simms, Jusa Demantor, Black Hero, Messias Maricoa among others.
The show’s theme has already triggered speculation that Winky D will tackle socio-economic and political issues head-on, in line with his history of using music as a vehicle for social commentary.
With “Tête-à-Tête,” Winky D appears to be signalling not just another concert, but a deliberate confrontation a direct “head-to-head” with his fans.
