EAGLES took firm control of their Logan Cup encounter against Mega Market Mountaineers on Day 3 at Harare Sports Club. After electing to bat first, Eagles posted a competitive 319 in their first innings and followed it up with a disciplined bowling display. By stumps, Mountaineers were struggling at 87 for 4, trailing by 232 runs and facing an uphill battle.
The Eagles’ innings was built on a series of solid contributions across the batting line-up. Tadiwanashe Marumani led the way with a well-crafted 66, while Craig Ervine added a fluent 56. Dion Myers contributed an important 50, and Tinashe Kamunhukamwe provided a solid start with 43. Their combined efforts ensured Eagles posted a strong total despite regular wickets.
In response, Mountaineers were put under early pressure by a focused Eagles bowling attack. Dion Myers was the standout performer with the ball, claiming three key wickets to break the backbone of the innings. He removed top scorer Nicholas Welch, who managed 43 runs, while Kashif Afridi chipped in with an early breakthrough to keep the momentum firmly with Eagles.
With a significant deficit still to overcome, Mountaineers will need a strong fightback on Day 4 to stay in the contest. However, Eagles hold the advantage and will be confident of pushing for victory if they maintain their intensity with the ball. As it stands, the match is firmly in Eagles’ hands.
