
SOUTHERN Rocks produced a commanding performance to defeat Mega Market Mountaineers by an innings and 20 runs on the fourth and final day of their Logan Cup match at Takashinga Cricket Club in Harare.
The Rocks took control of the match after posting a solid first innings total of 350 for nine declared in 88.2 overs.
Innocent Kaia was the standout performer with the bat, scoring a brilliant 176 off 252 deliveries, including 26 fours and a six. He was well supported by Panashe Taruvinga, who contributed 81 runs, while Jonathan Campbell remained unbeaten on 64 to strengthen Southern Rocks’ total.
In reply, Mega Market Mountaineers struggled against the disciplined bowling attack from Southern Rocks and were bowled out for 165 runs in their first innings. Timycen Maruma top-scored with 42 runs, while Nicholas Welch added 30. Jalat Khan led the bowling effort with four wickets for 46 runs, while Shelton Mazvitorera and Ali Asfand also played key roles with the ball.
Following on, Mountaineers once again failed to build momentum in their second innings and were bowled out for 165 runs. Nicholas Welch showed some resistance with a well-crafted 64, but the rest of the batting line-up could not offer enough support. Jalat Khan again impressed with the ball, claiming four wickets, while Shelton Mazvitorera and Ali Asfand took three wickets each to seal a convincing victory for Southern Rocks on the final day.
