Mukuhlani Swings Back, Calls for Unity in Cricket

ZIMBABWE Cricket (ZC) chairperson Tavengwa Mukuhlani has called for unity in the game, saying progress will only come if all stakeholders “play on the same team.”

Speaking at Harare Sports Club on Friday, Mukuhlani addressed sharp criticisms from Bulawayo Mayor and Senator David Coltart, who has been outspoken about the state of cricket in the country. But the ZC boss believes the constant barrage of attacks is not helping the sport move forward.

“We know there are challenges in our cricket system,” Mukuhlani admitted. “But this is the time to support and strengthen the game, not to criticise from the boundary ropes. We need everyone to come to the crease and bat together for Zimbabwe cricket.”

The cricket chairperson had already laid foundations for a stronger future, pointing to recent strides in facilities, community programs, and youth development.

“We have invested in infrastructure and partnered with schools to widen the talent pool,” he explained. “These are small steps, but important ones. If we all rally behind the team, the results will show.”

Coltart’s remarks have divided opinion, with some questioning whether his comments are motivated by politics rather than cricket. Mukuhlani, while acknowledging the senator’s passion for the sport, urged a focus on solutions.

“David Coltart clearly loves the game, but passion alone is not enough. We must work together and not play the blame game,” he said.
