Nedbank Tour de Great Dyke Gears Up for 8th Edition

PREPARATION are in full swing for the 8th Nedbank Tour de Great Dyke, scheduled for 6 to 8 November.

The three-day cycling extravaganza will bring together hundreds of cyclists, sponsors, and communities along Zimbabwe’s iconic Great Dyke.

This year’s route remains unchanged, stretching through the country’s mining belt from Selous to Zvishavane via Chegutu, Kadoma, Kwekwe, Gweru, and Shurugwi.

The Tour will be held over three laps: Selous to Kwekwe, Kwekwe to Shurugwi, and Shurugwi to Zvishavane, highlighting the beauty and vibrancy of the region.

A major feature of the 2025 edition is a new 80-kilometre competitive race from the Unki turnoff in Shurugwi to Zvishavane. The challenge is expected to attract elite cyclists and test stamina, strategy, and teamwork.

YAFM Project Manager Ebson Hungwe confirmed that preparations are progressing smoothly, with 300 riders expected to take part.

“Each year the Tour grows stronger and more inspiring. We are thrilled to welcome cyclists from Mozambique, adding an international flavour and showing that the Great Dyke story resonates beyond our borders,” he said.

Hungwe said the theme for this year, “Riding for Opportunity, Wellness and Charity”, reflects the needs of local communities. “The Tour encourages healthier lifestyles, teamwork, and mental resilience while giving back to those who need it most,” he added.

The event also offers sponsors a platform to engage with thousands of residents along the route, spanning three cities and three towns in a region that generates 60% of Zimbabwe’s mining revenue.

Proceeds from this year’s Tour will benefit the Gifted Children Foundation, which supports talented but underprivileged children in the Great Dyke area through education and mentorship.
