THE inaugural Pure Joy Weave Centre Chess Open is set to revive a regional chess tradition that once stood as a regular fixture on Zimbabwe’s chess calendar at the start of the year.
The tournament will run from January 1 to 4 and feature nine rounds across three sections: Open, Ladies, and Development. Games will take place at the Harare Club Hotel.
Zim Chess Consultancy is organising the event, with Pure Joy Weave Centre backing it with a US$3,000 sponsorship. The Open section winner will take home US$700, underlining the tournament’s strong competitive appeal.
Interest has been strong, with more than 140 players already registered. Organisers expect the number to rise further ahead of the December 31 entry deadline
