Havenhill Academy Sets Stage for ACCA Career and Graduation Day

ZIMBABWE’S next generation of accountants must be prepared to do more than pass examinations, with professional judgement, ethical conduct and practical experience becoming increasingly important in a changing business environment.

That thinking is at the centre of Havenhill Academy’s upcoming ACCA Career Open Day and Graduation Day, scheduled for November 27.

The Harare-based accounting training institution has adopted the theme “Building Resilient and Relevant Chartered Accountants” for the event, which will also celebrate the achievements of its graduating students.

Havenhill Academy is an ACCA Gold Approved Learning Partner, a status awarded to institutions that meet specified standards in tuition delivery, course management and student support.

The accreditation places responsibility on learning providers to maintain the quality of their programmes and meet performance requirements.

Havenhill principal officer Partson Nyatanga, a fellow chartered certified accountant and registered public accountant, has previously argued that professional training should produce graduates capable of contributing meaningfully in the workplace.

In an interview published earlier this year, Nyatanga said the academy’s approach combines academic preparation with personal development and efforts to secure practical experience for students.

The institution uses personalised teaching and flexible learning arrangements to accommodate students with different educational backgrounds and commitments.

It has also offered evening classes for working professionals, allowing those already employed in finance and related fields to pursue further qualifications.

The approach reflects a broader challenge in professional education: preparing students for examinations while helping them develop the skills needed to apply their knowledge.

Accounting professionals are expected to understand financial reporting, risk management, internal controls and regulatory requirements, often while responding to changes in technology and business practices.

Professional ethics remains another important part of their training.

Nyatanga has previously highlighted the role of accountants in promoting accountability, compliance and the responsible management of financial resources.

However, he has also acknowledged obstacles facing Zimbabwean ACCA students, including examination costs, internet access and the technology required for computer-based assessments.

Those pressures can make professional qualifications difficult to complete, particularly for students balancing tuition expenses with employment or family responsibilities.

Havenhill has sought to address some of these challenges through flexible learning arrangements and access to educational resources.

The academy has previously reported strong results at diploma level, although individual students must still satisfy ACCA’s examination, ethics and experience requirements before qualifying for professional membership.

Its November event offers an opportunity to place these issues before aspiring accountants while recognising students who have progressed through their studies.

The third ACCA Career Open Day and Graduation Day will run from 9am to 1pm, with free admission.

The venue will be announced later.
