Zim Chess Consultancy to Host Harare Blitz Tourney

ZIM Chess Consultancy (ZCC) will host the Harare Open Blitz tournament this Sunday as the organisation continues its drive to promote competitive chess in Zimbabwe.

The tournament will take place on Sunday, 8 February 2026, at the Harare Club Hotel, with the first round starting at 10:00 am.

Players will compete in 11 rounds using the Swiss format, with a 3+2 blitz time control.

This event is ZCC’s second tournament of the year, following the successful Pure Joy Open held earlier this year.

The organisers say the positive response from the first tournament encouraged them to continue hosting more competitions.

With prizes up for grabs, the Harare Open Blitz is expected to attract both experienced players and young upcoming talents from around Harare.

According to ZCC tournament organiser Lawrence Tavagwisa, the tournament will help grow interest in chess and give local players more chances to compete regularly in a well-organised setting.

“Our goal is to create more playing opportunities and keep chess active and accessible for everyone,” Tavagwisa said.
