Zimbabwe Targets Women’s Football Growth Through Regional Training

ZIMBABWE is strengthening its push to grow women’s football, with two senior administrators attending a regional leadership workshop in South Africa.

Zimbabwe Football Association vice president Loveness Wadzanai Mukura and Zimbabwe Women Premier Soccer League chairperson Chido Chizondo are representing the country at the COSAFA Women Leadership and Administration Workshop taking place from March 3 to 5.

The workshop has brought together women football leaders from Southern Africa to improve administration, planning and professional standards in the women’s game.

Speaking at the event, Mukura said the training comes at the right time for Zimbabwe.

“This workshop is a great opportunity for us to learn and share experiences with other women leaders in football. We are committed to improving women’s football in Zimbabwe and this workshop will help us formulate strategies and objectives to achieve that,” she said.

The programme is organised by COSAFA in partnership with Confederation of African Football.

COSAFA executive director Sue Destombes said the region is moving towards professionalising the women’s game.

“COSAFA is taking strides towards professionalisation of women’s football and we wish to empower women in football leadership with necessary skills and knowledge,” she said.

Zimbabwe has been working to strengthen its domestic women’s structures, and officials believe the workshop will help shape clearer development plans for the future.
