Big Prize Money Up for Grabs as Chibuku Neshamwari Returns

TRADITIONAL dance groups across Zimbabwe have been given a major incentive to showcase their talent, as the Chibuku Neshamwari Traditional Dance Festival returns with attractive prize money and nationwide exposure.

The 2026 edition of the popular festival will run from May 9 to July 11, with organisers rolling out competitions in all provinces before a national final later in July.

Beyond celebrating culture, this year’s event is expected to boost local arts by offering significant financial rewards. Provincial winners will walk away with US$2,500, while second and third place winners will receive US$1,500 and US$1,000 respectively. At national level, the top prize stands at US$15,000, with runners-up earning US$10,000 and US$7,500.

Organised in partnership with the National Arts Council of Zimbabwe (NACZ) and the Zimbabwe National Traditional Dancers Association (ZNTDA), the festival has become one of the biggest platforms for traditional performers in the country.

The competition will begin in Bulawayo on May 9 and move across provinces including Mashonaland Central, Masvingo, Matabeleland South, Mashonaland East and Harare. Other provinces such as Mashonaland West, Matabeleland North, Manicaland and Midlands will host their events in June.

Organisers say the festival is not only about competition, but also about giving dance groups a chance to grow, gain recognition and preserve Zimbabwe’s cultural identity.

Held under the theme “Ngoma Ngairire Shamwari, Tshay’sgubhu Mngane,” the event continues to promote unity and friendship through traditional dance.

Dance groups interested in taking part have been urged to register with NACZ and ZNTDA ahead of the provincial contests.

Members of the public are also expected to attend in large numbers, as the festival remains a crowd-puller known for lively performances and diverse cultural displays.

Sponsored by Delta Corporation, the Chibuku Neshamwari Festival has over the years played a key role in supporting the arts sector while bringing communities together through culture.
