SCOTTLAND FC’s Castle Lager Challenge Cup victory has translated into a new borehole for the Mabvuku community, after sponsors Delta Beverages officially handed over the facility on Thursday.
The borehole forms part of the prize package for Challenge Cup winners, who are given the opportunity to nominate a community project. Scottland, the reigning Castle Lager Premier Soccer League champions, directed the project to Mabvuku, where the club is based.
Club secretary-general Fortune Bgwoni said the gesture had been well received.
“This means a lot to the club and the locals. The locals are very happy that the club has done something for them, with this borehole that has been drilled, by virtue of winning the Castle Challenge Cup,” he said.
Bgwoni noted that the club, through its owner, had already sunk boreholes in the area before this handover.
“But already as you know, we as Scottland, through the owner Scott Sakupwanya, we have also drilled boreholes here in Mabvuku. We have made boreholes that we have put [in place]. And this one is a gesture from the Castle Challenge Cup for us winning the Castle Challenge Cup,” Bgwoni said.
Sakupwanya, who is also the Member of Parliament for Mabvuku-Tafara, was represented by Bgwoni at the ceremony, which was also attended by PSL chief executive Rodwell Thabe.
Delta Beverages Lagers general manager Lucky Nkunzane praised the club’s choice of project.
“Delta Beverages commends Scottland FC for choosing such an impactful project. It also reflects Castle Lager’s promise of bringing people together to create meaningful and lasting moments, in this case by improving access to clean water for the Mabvuku community,” Nkunzane said.
“On behalf of Delta Beverages and our flagship brand, Castle Lager, I congratulate Scottland FC once again and thank the club for choosing an initiative that will leave a lasting impact.”
