Former Dynamos Legend Opens Up On His Time At Prisons

Llyod Mutasa is among some of the most celebrated footballers to have played for Dynamos Football Club. After hanging up his boots, he embarked on a coaching career that took him to Premier League’s top clubs that include Dynamos, Fc Platinum and Kiglon Fc.

EnterSportNews reporter, Stephen Kandlela, caught up with him to have more insight about his time at Prisons. Below are the excerpts.

SK: You highlighted to me that before you joined Kiglon Fc you were employed as a sports officer at Prisons. Can you kindly share your experiences and challenges you faced during that time?

LM: As a sports officer l was overwhelmed by the fact that during that time people from various sporting disciplines like soccer, netball, volleyball, basketball, chess and darts would gather for the whole week to participate and interact as well as being kept fit. This was being done every year and as a sports officer great effort was needed to make sure everything was in place for all participants.

SK: Why did you decide to quit?

LM: l decided to move on to face new challenges and as a football person l thought it was proper to pursue the sport l love the most.

SK: What challenges do you face as a coach?

LM: The challenge of being a football coach is that you work continuously without rest. It becomes difficult to put football aside even during what others might term free time. You are never satisfied because it’s not about winning alone but trying to enhance the performance of the players and see to it that they earn a better living through the sport they fancy the most.

SK: Suppose you get employed before the season starts, what is your promise to football lovers?

LM: I promise all the stakeholders value for their money by playing football according to the book, that is attractive football full of freedom of expression from the players whilst acknowledging fair play.

SK: Finally, what inspired you to take up the coaching career?

LM: The decision of taking up the coaching career was to try and have players who would go and play overseas, something l wanted but could not. I was also motivated to have players who would take Zimbabwe football to another level by winning the AFCON and participate in the World cup.

SK: Thank you very much Samaita for time and effort.

LM: My pleasure.
