Tocky Vibes Releases Tuku Tribute Masterpiece
Self-proclaimed Tuku protege Tocky Vibes has released a rhythm-packaged mournful ditty for the departed national hero.
Fusing a distinct Tuku Music musical blend, punctuated with his trademark acoustic guitar.
Toki’s tribute track is a piece of musical genius that will once again induce fond memories of the legacy left by Oliver Mtukudzi, Zimbabwe’s finest and most famous musician, who passed away in January.
In the song, Tocky borrows some Tuku lyrics like “Help me Lord, I’m feeling low” but crafts his own. Bringing about a beautifully woven message of what the late musician meant to budding artists like Tocky Vibes, real name Obey Makamure.
Mtukudzi once remarked that Tocky was one of his few favourite young Zimdancehall singers and talented wordsmith and songwriter Soul Jah Love, Soul Musaka.
The opening tune of the track leans heavily on Tuku’s Mai Varamba (off Chinhambwe album), which seems convenient as Tocky begins the first verse with a pledge to keep Tuku Music alive.
“Tongochema mudhara, mudhara Tuku. Munodzoka here mudhara, Baba Tuku. Handigone navo…,” the youthful chart-buster goes on to lament soulfully.
The tune, produced by Munya Vialy, is best felt like a combination of Tuku’s lyrical and rhythmical prowess and Tocky Vibes’ thoughtful and appealing beat.
It is a six-minute musical pleasure during the current lockdown period.
