LIVERPOOL have confirmed that Zimbabwean youngsters Isaac Mabaya and Trey Nyoni will remain at Anfield for the 2026-27 season as part of the club’s retained list ahead of the new campaign.
Both players are still under contract and will continue their development within Liverpool’s senior and academy structures as the club reshapes its squad under head coach Arne Slot.
Defender Isaac Mabaya, 21, will spend the coming months focusing on recovery after an injury-hit 2025-26 season. He returned early from a loan spell at League One side Wigan Athletic in March after suffering a ruptured Achilles tendon, which ruled him out for the rest of the campaign after 14 appearances in all competitions.
Born in Preston to Zimbabwean parents, Mabaya has represented England at youth level but remains eligible to play for Zimbabwe. He signed a long-term contract with Liverpool in 2024 and made his senior debut in a pre-season friendly in 2022.
Midfielder Trey Nyoni, 19, is expected to push further for a regular first-team place after a breakthrough season. He made eight senior appearances in 2025-26, including three in the Premier League and two in the Champions League, and scored his first senior goal in the FA Cup third round against Accrington Stanley.
The Leicester-born midfielder, who also qualifies for Zimbabwe through his parents, joined Liverpool from Leicester City’s academy in 2023 and is expected to feature in pre-season as he bids to impress Slot.
Liverpool’s retained list comes as the club continues to reshape its squad. Several senior departures have already been confirmed ahead of the new season, with further transfer activity expected before the window closes on 1 September.
