Zimbabwe crush Bangladesh by an innings and 85 runs one-off test match

ZIMBABWE sealed a commanding innings-and-85-run victory over Bangladesh on Tuesday at Harare Sports Club, capping off a near-flawless three-day performance in which the hosts dominated every department of the one-off Test.

Chasing an almost impossible target after Zimbabwe had piled up 410 in their first innings, Bangladesh folded twice under sustained pressure, bowled out for 140 and then 185, handing the hosts one of their most comprehensive Test wins in recent memory.

The foundations were laid on day one, when Zimbabwe’s bowlers tore through Bangladesh’s top order for 140 in just 47.2 overs. Blessing Muzarabani and Richard Ngarava led the charge with relentless discipline, extracting movement and bounce from helpful Harare conditions, while Newman Nyamhuri chipped in with crucial breakthroughs to finish with four wickets in the innings. Only Mominul Haque put up any real fight, crafting a fluent 60 off 81 balls studded with 12 boundaries, but once he fell in the third session, the rest of the innings unravelled quickly.

Zimbabwe’s reply was built on patience, power and partnerships. Innocent Kaia anchored the innings with a superb 140 from 227 deliveries, the backbone of a total that swelled to 410 in 107.2 overs. He fell shortly after reaching three figures, but by then the contest was already slipping away from Bangladesh. Ben Curran’s brisk 42 and Brian Bennett’s fluent 59 gave Zimbabwe early momentum, while Craig Ervine’s 60 and Wessly Madhevere’s unbeaten 77 ensured the hosts batted their opponents out of the game entirely. Taijul Islam shouldered an enormous workload for the visitors, 40.2 overs for figures of seven for 138, but found little support at the other end.

Bangladesh’s second innings briefly threatened to delay the inevitable, with Najmul Hossain Shanto (30) and Mushfiqur Rahim (34) digging in, but the pressure never let up for long. Muzarabani struck again to finish with four wickets in the innings, Ngarava picked up key blows at the top and tail, and Nyamhuri continued to impress, removing Shanto and rounding out a match that showcased his growing influence on Zimbabwe’s attack. Late runs from Amite Hasan (25) and Hasan Mahmud (15) added a touch of respectability, but Bangladesh were eventually bowled out for 185 in 45 overs.

With no target left to chase, Zimbabwe’s innings victory was a fitting reflection of a performance built on control and consistency: a relentless bowling attack, a top order that absorbed early pressure, and a middle order that made the most of the platform laid before it.

Innocent Kaia was named Player of the Match for his defining 140, the innings that set the tone for Zimbabwe’s dominance throughout the Test.
