A ROUTINE purchase of a Coca-Cola drink has turned into a life changing reward for Zvishavane resident Esau Muguva, who on Thursday drove away in a brand new Hyundai i10 after emerging as the latest winner in the Coca-Cola FIFA World Cup promotion.
The vehicle, sponsored by Delta Corporation, was handed over at a ceremony in Harare, with company officials saying the promotion was designed to bring the excitement of the FIFA World Cup closer to Zimbabwean consumers while rewarding their loyalty.
Muguva’s winning entry came after he bought a Coca-Cola beverage for his wife, Ulitar Sabawa, who consumed the drink before they discovered they had won the grand prize.
Speaking at the handover ceremony, Delta Corporation General Manager for Corporate Affairs Patricia Murambinda said the occasion symbolised more than the presentation of a vehicle.
“It is a pleasure to be here today as we celebrate a very special moment, the handover of the Coca-Cola World Cup promotion vehicle to our deserving winner,” she said.
“Today is about more than receiving the keys to a vehicle. It is about turning an ordinary consumer moment into an extraordinary experience.”
Murambinda said Coca-Cola’s longstanding association with football, including its support of the COPA Coca-Cola schools tournament in Zimbabwe, inspired the promotion.
“Football brings people together across generations, communities and borders, and the FIFA World Cup captures that spirit perhaps better than any other sporting event. Through this promotion, we wanted our consumers to experience some of that excitement, anticipation and possibility here at home,” she said.
She congratulated the winner and wished him safe travels, adding that the promotion reflected Coca-Cola’s commitment to creating memorable experiences for consumers.
“Today, the World Cup excitement has delivered more than a moment it has delivered a new journey,” Murambinda said.
She also thanked consumers for their continued support of the brand.
“We also want to thank all our consumers who participated in the promotion. Your continued trust and loyalty are what give our brands meaning. We do not take that relationship for granted,” she said.
An elated Muguva said the prize would make a significant difference to his family.
“Basically, I bought the drink for my wife, Ulitar Sabawa, and she consumed it. I am happy that I won this big prize and it will help us as a family as far as transport is concerned. This is now my second car since I already have another one at home,” he said.
The Coca-Cola FIFA World Cup promotion remains open until the end of the month, giving more Zimbabwean consumers the opportunity to win prizes as anticipation builds towards football’s biggest global tournament.
