ZIMBABWE Chevrons are set for a demanding multi-format assignment in the United Arab Emirates, where they will face Afghanistan and Bangladesh in an ODI tri-series before taking on Afghanistan in three T20Is and two Tests in October and November.
The tour opens with the ODI tri-series on October 17 when Zimbabwe face Bangladesh.
Zimbabwe then meet hosts Afghanistan on October 19, before Afghanistan play Bangladesh on October 21. The top two sides will contest the final on October 23.
Attention will then turn to the shortest format, with Zimbabwe and Afghanistan meeting in three T20Is on October 27, October 29 and November 1.
The tour concludes with two Tests against Afghanistan, the first running from November 5-9 and the second from November 13-17.
The packed programme gives Zimbabwe valuable international cricket across all three formats, with the two Tests particularly significant as the country continues to push for more regular red-ball competition.
Zimbabwe Cricket managing director Givemore Makoni welcomed the tour, describing it as an important opportunity for the national side.
“This is an important tour for Zimbabwe, offering our players high-quality competition across all three formats,” Makoni said.
“The ODI tri-series will test us against two strong sides, while the two Tests are especially valuable as we continue seeking more regular opportunities in the longest format.
“We sincerely appreciate the Afghanistan Cricket Board for hosting this programme and the Bangladesh Cricket Board for their cooperation. We look forward to a competitive and exciting tour.”
Afghanistan Cricket Board chief executive Naseeb Khan said the programme would also give his side valuable competition across formats.
“We are pleased to confirm this important period of international cricket for the Afghanistan National Team,” Khan said.
“Playing Bangladesh and Zimbabwe across different formats will provide our players with valuable competitive opportunities and offer our supporters an exciting period of international cricket.”
