MTHOKOZISI Msebe has earned another chance with the Warriors. The Scottland FC midfielder is in Zimbabwe’s squad for the November Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Equatorial Guinea.
The Bulawayo-born playmaker has been among the standout performers for Mabviravira this season, earning a recall to the national team. His last appearance for the Warriors came against Namibia in 2023, making this a long-awaited return.
Msebe remained in the picture under former coach Michael Nees, who selected him for matches in 2025. Nees was later sacked and replaced by Romanian Marian “Mario” Marinica. Now, with Spaniard Ramon Catala at the helm, Msebe has another opportunity to make his case.
At 26, he is no stranger to the international stage, having scored on his debut. But a recall is only the first step. He will be competing for a place alongside experienced players, including veteran striker Knowledge Musona, his brother Walter, defenders Kelvin Moyo and Peter Muduhwa, midfielder Abboubakar Moffat and goalkeeper Nelson Chadya.
Msebe first made his mark at Bulawayo Chiefs, where his creativity and eye for a pass established him as an important figure in attack. His performances earned him a move to Simba Bhora in 2023 before he joined Scottland, the Scott Sakupwanya-owned club that won the Premier Soccer League title in 2025.
His return to the Warriors gives him a chance to bring that club form to the international stage. His ability to create chances and link midfield with attack could prove useful, while his familiarity with Scottland teammate Moffat offers another option for Catala. The pair know each other’s game from their time together at club level.
Msebe’s international story began on a memorable note. He scored on his Warriors debut against Namibia at the National Sports Stadium in September 2023, in a match staged to mark President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s inauguration. Nearly three years later, he is back looking to make a similar impression and establish himself in the squad.
Zimbabwe face two crucial matches against Equatorial Guinea as they pursue qualification for the 2027 AFCON finals, to be co-hosted by Kenya, Uganda and Tanzania. After losing to the Democratic Republic of Congo in their previous outing, the Warriors will be looking to respond, with the two fixtures offering an opportunity to strengthen their campaign.
For Msebe, the immediate challenge is to turn his recall into meaningful minutes on the pitch. Whether creating chances, retaining possession or finding openings against a well-organised defence, he will need to show Catala what he can bring to the side.
Sharing the dressing room with established internationals, including the Musona brothers, Marshall Munetsi and Marvelous Nakamba, also gives him the chance to learn from players who have spent years at the highest level.
Msebe has already shown he can make an impact on his international debut. Now, with his club career gathering momentum, he has another opportunity to prove he belongs in the Warriors setup.
