Chauluka backs young Zim A crop to push for national honours

ZIMBABWE A head coach Eric Chauluka believes several players in his squad have the potential to represent the country at the highest level as they prepare to face Ireland A in a two-match four-day series starting in Harare on Thursday.

The 15-member squad includes former national Under-19 players Shelton Mazvitorera and Panashe Taruvinga, alongside performers from the domestic franchise competition.

“There are several exciting young players in the squad, a few from the last under 19s World Cup and Franchise performers who have earned their place through strong performances and consistent effort,” Chauluka said.

“There are a number of players who are very close, which is encouraging for Zimbabwe cricket.”

Chauluka declined to single out individuals to watch, preferring to focus on the squad as a whole.

“Rather than putting pressure on individuals before the series begins, I’d encourage supporters to watch the group as a whole,” he said.

“There is genuine talent in this squad, and I believe a number of these players have the potential to represent Zimbabwe at the highest level in the future.”

The squad also includes Takudzwanashe Kaitano, Clive Madande, Johnathan Campbell, Roy Kaia and Dion Myers.

The two four-day matches will be followed by five one-day fixtures from November 18 to 27.
