Chipolopolo Zambia Nyau Wins Midlands Provincial Chibuku NeShamwari Crown

CHIPOLOPOLO Zambia Nyau of Kwekwe was crowned Midlands provincial champion at the Chibuku Neshamwari Traditional Dance Festival after delivering a captivating performance that earned the group top honours.

The group outshone the competition to secure first place and the US$2,500 winner’s prize, while also booking a place at the national finals.

Mhukahuru Dance Group from Gweru finished second and received US$1,500 after an impressive display of traditional dance skills. Third place went to Zikuvave Gure of Kwekwe, which earned US$1,000.

The provincial finals brought together some of Midlands’ finest traditional dance groups, with spectators treated to colourful costumes, vibrant drumming and energetic performances.

The event formed part of the nationwide Chibuku Neshamwari Traditional Dance Festival, one of Zimbabwe’s biggest celebrations of culture and heritage.

Organisers praised the high standard of performances and the continued commitment of communities to preserving traditional dance.

Chipolopolo Zambia Nyau will now join provincial champions from across the country at the national finals, where they will compete for the festival’s top prize and national bragging rights.

Meanwhile Dapuraunanzva Dance Ensemble emerged victorious at the Manicaland provincial finals of the Chibuku Neshamwari Traditional Dance Festival held in Watsomba, earning a place at the national finals.

The group impressed judges with its energetic performance of the Mbakumba dance to claim first prize and the provincial title. Their victory earned them US$2,500 and the right to represent Manicaland at the national finals next month.

MANSA finished in second place after showcasing the Chinyambera dance, receiving US$1,500 in prize money. Chihomva Dance Group took third position with its presentation of the Zhana dance and walked away with US$1,000.
