THE countdown to Zimbabwe’s biggest traditional dance showdown has officially begun, with all ten provincial champions now confirmed for the Chibuku Neshamwari Traditional Dance Festival National Finals set for 1 August 2026 in Harare.
The journey that began in May has reached its climax after weeks of fierce competition across the country, where dance groups battled for provincial honours in packed venues from Bulawayo to Manicaland.
Now, the spotlight shifts to Harare Gardens, where the country’s best traditional dance groups will meet in a grand cultural finale under the theme “Ngoma Ngairire Shamwari.”
This year’s finalists reflect Zimbabwe’s rich cultural diversity, with each province bringing a unique dance style rooted in history and tradition. Bulawayo’s Ezimnyama Arts Ensemble will carry the Tsutsube rhythm, while Masvingo’s MUSA comes in with the spiritual Bira reVadzimu performance.
Harare will be represented by Shingai Dance Troupe with Mbakumba, while Matabeleland North sends Amakhosikazi with Isitshikitsha. Mashonaland West’s Pisa Pisa Nyau will showcase Malawi Gulewankulu, and Manicaland’s Dapuraunanzva Dance Ensemble returns with Mbakumba.
Midlands champions Chipolopolo Zambia Nyau bring the energetic Zambia Nyau dance, while Bolamba Culture Birds represent Matabeleland South with Tsutsube. Mashonaland East’s Marondera Gure Arts Group completes the lineup with Chewa Gulewankulu.
Organisers say this year’s final is expected to be one of the most competitive editions yet, as groups not only battle for honour but also for major prize money of US$15,000 for first place.
The second and third prizes are US$10,000 and US$7,500 respectively.
With rehearsals already underway across provinces, anticipation is building for a cultural showdown that promises colour, rhythm and intense rivalry on one stage.
