Sally Mugabe Hospital first to benefit from Castle Lager bed donation

A major boost for Zimbabwe’s strained public health sector came on Wednesday as Delta Beverages handed over new hospital beds to Sally Mugabe Central Hospital, highlighting the growing role of private companies in supporting essential services.

The donation, made under the company’s Castle Lager brand, is part of a wider plan to distribute 100 state of the art beds to hospitals across the country’s 10 provinces.

What stood out at the ceremony was not only the equipment, but the message behind it, that corporate Zimbabwe is stepping more visibly into public welfare space.

Delta Beverages said the initiative stems from a pledge made during the 10th anniversary of the National Castle Lager Braai Day, one of the brand’s flagship events.

“This is about more than fulfilment of a promise. It is about standing with communities and institutions that carry the weight of the nation’s health every day,” the company said.

Sally Mugabe Hospital becomes the first beneficiary in a programme expected to reach health centres nationwide in the coming months.

Hospital leadership, including Chief Medical Officer Mr Mungani and Clinical Director Dr Chifamba, welcomed the development, saying the additional beds will help ease congestion and improve patient dignity.

Zimbabwe’s public hospitals have long faced shortages of critical equipment, and the latest intervention is expected to bring relief to both patients and overburdened medical staff.

By placing healthcare at the centre of its corporate social responsibility, Delta Beverages is responding to immediate needs while also setting a precedent for sustained private sector involvement in national development.
